1. | Plastic Profile |
Plastic profile accounts for approximately 25% of the total consumption of PVC in China, making it the largest area of PVC consumption. Plastic profile is used mainly for energy-saving applications in doors and windows. Plastic profile use has increased significantly in China. In developed countries, plastic doors and windows have an even greater market share, for example, Germany (50%), France (56%), and the United States (45%).
2. | Plastic Pipe |
PVC pipe is the second largest category of use, accounting for approximately 20%. In China, PVC pipe exists in a wide variety, followed by PE pipe and PP pipe, offering excellent performance and wide-ranging uses.
3. | Hard and Soft Film |
PVC film consumption ranks third at about 10% of total use. Fabricating PVC with additives, using a three or four roller calendaring mechanism, into a specified thickness of transparent or colored film, produces calendaring film, which can be cut and processed thermally into packaging bags, raincoats, tablecloths, shower curtains, inflatable toys, cabinet blister, wardrobe wrap, and refrigerator film. Wide transparent film sheets can be used for plastic greenhouse film and plastic film. The heat-shrinkable properties of film stretched in both directions makes it ideal for use used in shrinkable packaging.
4. | Hard Material and |
Sheet |
After mixing PVC with stabilizer, lubricant, and filler, extruding machinery can create hard pipe, specially shaped pipe, and bellows of various diameters, for use as sewer and water pipe, wire sleeve, and handrails. The laminated sheets can be formed into hard plates of various thickness via hot pressing. Sheets can be cut into any desired shape and then fabricated using PVC welding rod into a variety of corrosion-resistant storage tanks, air ducts, and containers.
5. | General Soft |
Products |
Material can be extruded into hoses, cables, wires, etc. Injection-molding machinery can be used to make consumer products, such as plastic sandals, soles, slippers, toys, stationery, automotive accessories, labels, medical products, etc.
6. | Packing Material |
PVC products are used for packaging, with a variety of containers, films, and hard pieces. PVC-based containers are used for mineral water, beverages, and cosmetics bottles, and also for refined oil packaging. PVC film can be extruded with other polymers to produce low-cost laminated and transparent products with good barrier properties. PVC films can also be used in stretch or thermal-shrink packaging for mattresses, cloth, toys, and industrial goods.
7. | Clapboard and |
Flooring |
PVC siding is used mainly as a replacement for aluminum siding, and also as PVC floor tiles, a component of PVC resin, and recycled materials, adhesives, fillers, and other components used mainly in floors for airport terminals and other hard floor surfaces.
8. | Consumer Products |
Luggage is a popular application for PVC, given its usefulness for fabricating imitation leathers. It is also used in sports products, such as basketballs, footballs, and rugby balls. It can also be used in belts for uniforms and special protective equipment. PVC-based clothing fabrics are generally absorbent (no coating required), making it ideal for ponchos, baby pants, imitation leather jackets, and rain boots.
9. | Medical Supplies |
PVC has been used in medical devices and supplies for many years. It’s resistant to chemical corrosion, oxidants, reducing agents, and strong acid. It is also wear resistant, easy to produce, safe to use, and inexpensive. PVC medical devices are compatible with intravenous fluids and blood, making them ideal for use in various medical hoses, blood-storage devices, dialysis accessories, surgical gloves, goggles, and artificial organs.
